Job Summary

Dominion Energy's Nuclear Generation Business Unit seeks a senior level Cyber Security/Digital Engineer with experience in Industrial Control System environments (ICS), computer, and network security to support the Surry Power Station in Surry, VA. There is one position available that will be filled at the Nuclear Engineer III level.

Individual will provide technical support for the Surry Power Station Cyber Security Program’s development, implementation and cyclic re-validation in accordance with nuclear regulations. This includes supporting identification, assessment and classification critical digital assets, program implementation and development of remediation strategies (e.g., digital and/or classical I&C equipment modification package development). The successful candidate for this position already possesses full knowledge of digital equipment operation and has a demonstrated grasp of fundamental engineering principles and techniques, procedures, and criteria needed to carry out assigned engineering tasks. Ability to exercise good judgment is required on details of work, and in making preliminary selections, and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

In addition, the successful candidate will be able to provide the support noted below in accordance with standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements for the Nuclear Generation fleet:

  • Support ICS, computer, network and security equipment in Nuclear Generation.

  • Manage and proficiently utilize cyber security systems deployed in protection of ICS/DCS/PLC assets, including asset inventory systems, change management.

  • Recommend and support the implementation of architectures necessary to maintain Nuclear Generation’s cyber security and compliance posture.

  • Perform periodic reviews of cyber security systems/software tools and implementation.

  • Evaluate security software/appliance upgrades and ensure these are deployed in coordination with the plant cyber security personnel.

  • Monitor cyber security best practices, industry trends, and regulatory requirements and produce risk communications.

  • Review industry guidance for cyber security, identify gaps in cyber security controls and recommend/implement technical or administrative solutions to remediate.

  • Develop change management records and design change packages with cyber security compliance.

  • Participate in cyber security event follow-ups in coordination with Incident Response Team and plant cyber security personnel. Assists IT Cyber security personnel in following incident response procedures.

  • Address and resolve Cyber Security vulnerabilities in compliance with Cyber Security procedures and policies.

  • Ensure system drawings and documentation is revised as needed.

  • Willing to get into the field and perform hands on evaluation of plant modifications.

  • Knowledge of Cyber/Information Security concepts, practices and procedures as it relates to nuclear plant physical security.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Seven years of engineering experience, four of which focusing on Cyber Security Engineering.

  • Experience in commercial nuclear power or Navy/DOD/DOE nuclear experience.

  • Must have a detailed ‘hands on’ understanding of cyber security processes and technologies including,

  • An understanding of industrial control system networks and the differences from IT systems when applying cyber security controls on OT systems (e.g., ICS, PLC, DPC, and SCADA).

  • An understanding of workstation and server security and protection

  • Experience in security aspects of multiple platforms, operating systems, software, communications, and network architecture and topologies.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong level of understanding of IT/OT security principles, technologies, best practices, and NIST ICS guidance.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment to identify errors, pin point root causes, and devise solutions with minimal oversight.

  • Must be able to coordinate multi-project assignments and manage deadlines.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills;

Preferred Skills:

  • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)

  • Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP)

  • Familiarity with Industrial Control Systems / Programmable Electronic Systems (DCS and PLC) and third party datalink protocols (Modbus, DNP, ABPLC).

Education Requirements

Must Possess a 4-year Computer, Electrical or I&C Engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid Professional Engineer license.

Depending on functional responsibilities and location of position, must review ANS 3.1 12/79, ANSI N18.1-1971 or ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993 and DOM QA-1 as appropriate.

  • Security+

  • Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+)

  • Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP)

  • Familiarity with Industrial Control Systems / Programmable Electronic Systems (DCS and PLC) and third party datalink protocols (Modbus, DNP, ABPLC).
