Job Description

VDOT’s Richmond District seeks an experienced individual to manage and oversee project development for highway and bridge projects of varying complexity in compliance with project scope. The selected candidate will serve as the responsible charge engineer and ensure projects are completed on-time and on-budget. Will plan, organize, monitor, and direct work activities and resources. Provide direction and coordination for project activities, integrating team member deliverables and budgets. Develop and maintain up-to-date project work plans and schedules. Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, citizens, and the media. Create and maintain positive partnerships with internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience applying roadway engineering design and state and federal standards related to highway design and construction. Experience applying federal, state and local transportation rules, regulations, policies, and practices and in preliminary engineering and construction activities. Comprehensive knowledge of transportation construction principles and practices, transportation project management, quality assurance and control methods. Knowledge of strategic, operational and financial management principles, practices, and techniques. Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering software. Ability to oversee construction activities for multiple projects of varying complexity as Engineer-in –Responsible-Charge. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse groups. Valid Professional Engineer’s license. Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications

BS in Construction, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent training and experience may substitute for a degree. Progressively responsible experience managing complex projects in the transportation engineering and construction industry. Experience managing total operation of projects with significant value.

Special Requirements

A Professional Engineer license valid in Virginia or eligible for transfer to Virginia. Telework options to be determined by manager according to business need. Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Fingerprint based background check, references, work history PE Licensure verification and DMV records will be verified prior to employment.
